(As submissions come from so many different sources, the Puget Sound Folk Harp Society cannot guarantee the accuracy of every detail; please check with the contact person when listed if you have questions or concerns about the event.) Jul 12 Online. Verlene Schermer Workshop – “Crafting Music” for any instrument, 1-3 PDT. If you have always thought composing music was only for the extremely talented, gifted, inspired musicians, here is a step by step approach that makes use of language elements to craft a piece of music from start to finish! Use poetry, prose, or song lyrics as our guide for crafting music, and by the end of class, you will have a music composition that really speaks! Cost of the workshop: $30 per person. July 12-13 Mt. Vernon WA. Come check out the Harp Tent at the Skagit Valley Highland Games! Performances by various solo harpers and ensembles will be on tap all day both Saturday and Sunday, July 12-13. Tickets for the games are available either online through https://www.celticarts.org/highland-games or at the gate at the Skagit Valley Fair Grounds in Mount Vernon WA.

July 17-20 Princeton NJ. It’s far away but it’s a big one: Somerset Folk Harp Festival, now in it’s 25th year! For details see SomersetHarpFest.com.

Jul 18 Portland WA. Golden Bough (Margie Butler, harp) concert, featuring songs from 45 years of recording and performing, with plenty of your favorite Celtic songs. 7-9 pm. Jul 25 Vancouver WA. Vancouver WA/Portland OR area harp circle meets the fourth Friday of every month at Cascade Park Community Library, 600 NE 136th Ave in Vancouver WA. Group tunes, individual tunes and/or songs, creative expression, and a great time! Welcome to all ability levels, from 10 am-12 pm Pacific Time. Jul 25 Portland OR. Accorda Music-Thanatology Institute Benefit Concert – Sponsored by SacredFlight. This concert takes place Friday, July 25, 2025, 7:00 pm at Rose City Park Presbyterian Church, 1907 NE 45th Ave (at Sandy Blvd), in Portland OR. Save the date for an evening of renewal through music, featuring local music-thanatologists, guest musicians, and Accorda students and faculty—all in support of the Accorda Music-Thanatology Institute. Jul 26 Olympia WA. The Olympia-area harp circle will meet July 26 from 1-3 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3800 Henderson Blvd SE, Olympia. The church is near Olympia High School. Harpers should enter on the north side of the building, then turn left and go to the room in the corner at the end of the hall. AUGUST 2025

Aug 1 Port Angeles WA. Harp Concert: Golden Jubilee with Ann and Charlie Heymann, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Port Angeles Main Library. Enjoy a FREE performance with Gaelic harp, button accordion, cittern, and vocals. This concert marks Ann’s and Charlie’s 50th year together in a musical journey that has led to travel throughout the U.S., Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Europe, and Australia. Known as “the pioneer who returned the Gaelic harp to a living tradition” (The Scottish Harp Society), Ann is a premiere performer and authority on the wire-strung Irish harp. Charlie is always happy to knock out tunes on the button accordion, and he also sings a broad range of material in Irish and English spanning over a thousand years, both a cappella and with his distinctive cittern.

Aug 4 Port Angeles WA. Ann and Charlie Heymann provide a lecture: My Harps—My Teachers on Monday, August 4, 6:30-7:30 pm at the Port Angeles Main Library.

This 5-day workshop offers expert instruction for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced players. Registration opens for the 2025 PSFHS Harp Retreat at the beach on Whidbey Island, a family style cozy weekend of hands-on harp activities with plenty of time for beach-combing, trail-walking, kite-flying fun. Aug 17 Portland OR. Internationally renowned harper Ann Heymann is presenting two workshops at Artichoke Music in Portland on Sunday August 17th: 1-2:30 pm “Inside Carolan’s Music”, for all harps with a few available on site, and from 3:00-4:30 pm, “Unique Harp Tunings, from Stress Reduction to Bop”. $25 each or both for $40. Sep 12-14 Corvallis OR. Heart of the Valley harp retreat, a packed weekend of workshops for pedal and lever harpist of all levels, led by outstanding teachers in the heart of Willamette Valley. Sep 19-21 Missoula MT. 2025 Montana Harp Retreat, hosted by the Big Sky Harp Society, at the Best Western Plus Grant Creek Inn in Missoula. The presenter this year is Hannah Flowers, performer and educator from St. Paul MN (www.HannahFlowersHarp.com). They have booked a courtesy room block at the hotel.
