MARCH 2026
Mar 7 Seattle WA. Laura Zaerr presents two harp workshops at Dusty Strings, 3406 Fremont Ave N. Max Enrollment 16. Registration & Refund Deadline March 4.
– “Basics of Beauty and Fire”, 11 am – 1 pm: This is a techniques workshop appropriate for all levels. First, we will work on exercises for finger dexterity, independence, and strength. Next, we will work on playing speedy effortless arpeggios. We will learn about “rhythms” as a technique to build up speed and even tone using a series of seventh chord arpeggios that could be used as filler or stand-alone piece as a sort of improvisation. Skills Needed: You don’t have to have previous experience with the harp, but a few lessons ahead of time and some basic music reading skills might be useful. The workshop will progress according to the needs of the participants. $60. For more info or to register see Mar 7: Basics of Beauty and Fire with Laura Zaerr – Dusty Strings .
– “The Anatomy of an Arrangement”, 2 pm – 4 pm: We will look closely at two well-known Gaelic tunes, Chro Chinn t’Sàile and Chi Mi Na Mór-bheanna. We start by playing with the breath of the Gaelic text, then playing the melody only, and then gradually work into some arranging devices to enhance the pathos of these ancient airs. You will learn a new set of tricks for arranging and a renewed appreciation for the apparent simplicity of these haunting melodies. Skills Needed: All levels welcome. You don’t have to have previous experience with the harp, but a few lessons ahead of time and some basic music reading skills might be useful. This is a “jump-in-at-whatever-level-you-feel-comfortable-with” hands on workshop. We will move quickly and cover several techniques which could be engaged with simply or more in-depth. $60. For more info or to register see Mar 7: The Anatomy of an Arrangement with Laura Zaerr – Dusty Strings .
