Apr 2 Seattle WA. Miki Nelson, owner of booking agency Celtinental Music (Gerry O’Connor, Tony McManus, Tannahill Weavers, and Ensemble Sangineto are among her clients), is offering a Booking Through The Back Door workshop for all musicians at Dusty Strings on Wednesday, 4/2/25 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Find out how to navigate the wild and woolly world of tour booking for yourself or other artists, and experience the joys of coordinating a tour and dealing with visas, contracts, fees, and radius clauses, among others! Students should bring paper and pen/pencil for notes. $60.00. Apr 5 On-line. Verlene Schermer Workshop, Saturday 4/5/25 at 10:00 am–12:00 pm pacific time, “Harp Chord Intensive – Triads and Seventh Chords” for harp (lever or pedal). In this workshop, you will have an opportunity to really drill those chords in root position and inversions, as well as “root-five-octave” patterns. You’ll learn how to get to your chords on time with both hands with a set of chord progressions. If you are interested in chords beyond the seventh chords, you can also sign up for the Harp Chord Intensive – Jazz Chords for Lever Harps workshop later in the month! Apr 5 Eugene OR. Beall Hall Centennial Celebration, 2:15 pm, free. Dr. Kyakuwa, a Ugandan Mutooro, will lead an interactive performance of the traditional Rutooro folk song Twaara Amata Gaawe (“Have Your Milk”) featuring pedal harps, voice, and the Adungu—an arched harp native to Uganda and found in Sub-Saharan Africa. Both the Adungu and pedal harp symbolize unity, peace, and communal values. The song reflects the Batooro people’s rich cultural heritage, emphasizing hospitality, responsibility, respect, and identity.

Apr 26 On-line. Verlene Schermer Workshop, Saturday, 4/26/25, from 10 am–12 pm pacific time. “Harp Chord Intensive Jazzy Chords for Lever Harp” for those who are comfortable with basic triads and 7th chords. In this workshop, you will learn where all the chord extensions are and have an opportunity to drill moving from one chord to another. You’ll learn how to spread out the notes between two hands, and still keep the melody note at the top. You’ll learn how to “keep the common tone” and move to the nearest inversion with the provided lead sheets. If you have taken the Cool Chords and Groovy Rhythms class, the “how-to” part will be a great review, while the “hands-on” part will give you some great practice on getting to those juicy chords! Apr 26 Olympia WA. The Olympia-area harp circle will meet April 26 from 1-3 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3800 Henderson Blvd SE, Olympia. The church is near Olympia High School. Harpers should enter on the north side of the building, then turn left and go to the room in the corner at the end of the hall.
